How to identify Pierre Robin sequence?
Pierre Robin sequence is a rare condition that occurs in babies, characterized by a small lower jaw( micrognathia), a tongue that falls back towards the throat( glossoptosis), and a cleft palate or opening in the roof of the mouth. These three features can beget breathing difficulties, feeding problems, and speech difficulties.
Etiology of Pierre Robin’s sequence
Exact cause isn’t known, but it’s believed to be a combination of inheritable and environmental factors. It can do as an isolated condition or as part of an inheritable pattern.
Treatment
Treatment depends on the inflexibility of the condition. Mild cases may not bear treatment, but more severe cases may bear surgery to correct the jaw position and repair the cleft palate. In some cases, a device called a mandibular distraction device may be used to gradationally outstretch the lower jaw over time. Early intervention and operation are important for babies with the Pierre Robin sequence to help with implicit complications similar to airway inhibition, feeding difficulties, and experimental detainments.
